About Us
Get to Know Mental Help America
The United States is grappling with an escalating mental health and substance abuse crisis. Nearly 1 in 5 adults—approximately 57.8 million people—suffer from a mental illness each year. Depression has surged to become one of the leading causes of disability, contributing to the growing burden on the healthcare system. Alarmingly, suicide rates have increased by 33% since 1999, making it the second leading cause of death among individuals aged 10-34. Every 11 minutes, another life is lost to suicide, a stark reminder of the urgent need for action.
Yet, despite these staggering numbers, access to mental health and substance abuse care in the U.S. remains a significant challenge. Over 50% of adults with a mental illness do not receive treatment, with systemic issues like cost, limited resources, and a lack of mental health professionals contributing to this gap. As a result, millions are left to face their mental health struggles alone, impacting families, communities, and society as a whole.
Mental Help America is committed to addressing these disparities and ensuring that every individual has access to essential mental health and Substance abuse support and resources. Our foundation works tirelessly to raise awareness, advocate for better mental health and Substance abuse policies, and empower individuals and communities through education. We are breaking the Crisis surrounding mental health and Substance Abuse through Partnerships, Technological solutions and initiatives like The HelpMe2 Movement, providing hope and a pathway to healing for those who need it most.
Our vision is clear: a United States where mental health and Substance Abuse care is prioritized, and no one is left behind.

A Message from Our Founder
Dear Friends,
There was a time when I was skeptical about mental health issues. I didn’t understand the depth of what people were going through—I even criticized it. But life changed that for me in ways I never expected.
A few years ago, I found myself in a dark place. The weight of stress, anxiety, and a constant feeling of being overwhelmed became unbearable. I tried to push through, to pretend everything was fine, but inside I was falling apart. It wasn’t just me—I saw the same struggle in friends and family, people I loved who were silently battling their own demons. The pain in their eyes mirrored my own, and I realized just how real and devastating mental health challenges can be.
This experience opened my eyes and my heart. It made me see that mental health is not just important—it’s critical. I founded the Mental Help Foundation because I know firsthand how lonely and frightening these struggles can be, and I don’t want anyone to go through it alone. We are here to provide the support, the understanding, and the resources that can make all the difference.
Mental health matters. You matter. And together, we can create a world where no one has to fight these battles in silence.
With deep gratitude,
Karl Fru
